Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition that affects the functioning of the bowel. The main symptoms are abdominal pain or discomfort that is often relieved by passing wind or faeces, stomach bloating and chronic diarrhoea or constipation (or alternating between the two). These symptoms can be embarrassing, inconvenient and distressing.

What are FODMAPs?

Put simply, FODMAPs are a collection of short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that aren’t absorbed properly in the gut, which can trigger symptoms in people with IBS. FODMAPs are found naturally in many foods and food additives. Developed by Monash University researchers, the Low FODMAP diet limits foods that have been shown to aggravate the gut and cause Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms like intestinal bloating, gas and pain. These foods are high in a group of sugars called FODMAPs.

All welcome to this fantastic free information session. Healthy nibbles and drinks will be provided! Please let reception or clinical staff know if you plan on attending.
